Natures Discovery Spotlight

Natures Discovery

Discover the beauty, fun and educational value of nature here in Vernal Utah. Our  Camp is filled with learning opportunities, as your child searches for wildlife, including mammals, insects, amphibians, birds and fish. They will discover the art of tracking and will also use nets to catch butterflies and fish - both of which will be returned to the wild at the end of the week. Explore the GREAT outdoors and the wonders of nature, while enjoying tons of hands on experience. Each day the camp will highlight one classification of animals with a story, craft & educational worksheets.
MONDAY is REPTILE and AMPHIBIAN DAY! Today our campers will be introduced to the thrilling animal species of reptiles & amphibians. After discussing some of the intriguing characteristics of these amazing creatures, campers will hike through theVernal parks in search of our scaly slimy friends.   The campers will finish their day with a hike around the pond, looking for a variety of frogs and toads. Campers will make a popcorn snake snack to be enjoyed outside under our canopy. We will also be using our artistic talents for a wonderful reptile craft that will go home with each camper.

TUESDAY is BIRD DAY! After our opening bird game, campers will discuss some of the fabulous charac-teristics of birds. Join our feathered friends for a day filled with fun & adventure. We will venture along the tree lines in search of birds using binoculars. We will try to observe birds in motion and discuss bird nests, migration and food supply. Campers will build a three dimensional feathered bird to take home with them. Snacks will include gummy worms and sunflower seeds. Come explore, discover and learn together!

WEDNESDAY is MAMMAL DAY! We will be sure to play the "Mr. Bear" game today as we introduce the charac-teristics of Mammals.  Campers will create an animal track camp shirt, using stamps featuring different animal tracks. We will perform our daily hike on the grounds and see if we can spot our mammal neighbors and explore their mysterious daily routines.

THURSDAY is INSECT DAY! Do you like webs, wings and crawly things? Explore the nooks and crannies of the outdoors while we examine examples from the tiny world of bugs. We will discuss the differ-ences between flying insects and non-flying insects, including spiders. The craft will include a beaded drag-onfly that campers can hang up at home. We will be making our very own bug catchers today. Snack will include oreo cookie spiders made by the campers. We’ll have a buggin’ good time!
